History of Foundation

The Korean Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (KSPID) was originated from the Korean Study Group of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (KSGPID) on the recognition for the necessity of academic research and information exchange for pediatric infectious diseases.

The first preparation meeting of KSGPID was held on 29th April 1993.The members made a name and regulations of the group through several meetings, and held the inaugural assembly of KSGPID on 17th June 1993.

The first president of KSGPID was Prof. Lee, Sang Jhoo (Soonchunhyang University College of Medicine), the deputy president was Prof. Sohn, Keun Chan (Dankook University Medical College), the auditors were Prof. Kang, Chin Moo (Keimyung University School of Medicine) and Dr. Ahn, Don Hee (National Medical Center), the chief of general affairs was Prof. Sohn, Young Mo (Yonsei University College of Medicine), and the chief of scientific affairs was Prof. Lee, Hoan Jong (Seoul National University College of Medicine).

Since then, monthly academic meeting, steering committee, and spring and fall academic conferences were held on a regular basis. The first official academic journal titled "Korean Journal of Pediatric Infectious Diseases" was published on 20th November 1994 and 5 times newsletters were printed.

Finally, the KSPID was registered in an official society on 3rd September 1996, and then it has been working much productively in the field of Korean pediatric infectious diseases.
