Activities

  • 1) Managements

    Including the president and deputy president, the chief of subdivision medical specialist, two auditors, 1 director in each department of general affairs, scientific affairs, publication affairs, education and training affairs, planning and information affairs, insurance and legislation affairs and finance afffairs along with 10 general directors were selected and are working for KSPID.

    Supreme legislative body is the academic senate, which consists of 34 members, and those schemes voted are confirmed in general meeting at the spring academic conference.

    After the foundation of KSPID,
    the first president was Lee, Sang Jhoo (Soonchunhyang University College of Medicine),
    the 2nd and 3rd president was Sohn, keun Chan (Dankook University Medical College),
    the 4th president was Kim, Chang Hwi (Soonchunhyang University College of Medicine),
    the 5th president was Kim, Jung Soo (Chonbuk National University Medical School),
    the 6th president was Oh, Sung Hee (Hanyang University College of Medicine),
    the 7th president was Kang, Jin Han (College of Medicine, The Catholic University of Korea),
    the 8th president was Cha, Sung Ho (Kyunghee University School of Medicine),
    the 9th president was Lee, Hoan Jong (Seoul National University College of Medicine), and
    the 10th president as 2-year terms is Hong, Young Jin (Inha University School of Medicine),
    the 11th presedent was Hur, Jae Kyun (College of Medicine, The Catholic University of Korea),
    the 12th presedent was Kim Kyung Hyo (Ewha Womans University College of Medicine), and
    the current 13th-14th president as 2-year terms is Kim, Jong-Hyun (College of Medicine, The Catholic University of Korea)

    Regular member is defined as the personnel, who has medical specialist license or is equivalent to medical specialist license being interested in pediatric infectious diseases or having experiences in infectious diseases field. Associate member is defined as medical doctor, who is interested in pediatric infectious diseases but not regular member. Special member is the personnel or institutes contributing to development of KSPID.

    Total number of members is 544 as of May 2012. Regular members consist of personnel studying pediatrics, internal medicine, family medicine, preventive medicine and microbiology, etc.

  • 2) Domestic academic conferences

    The KSPID is organizing academic conferences at spring and fall, 2 times a year regularly.
    Spring academic conference is held in May annually as the way of symposium based on sharing the knowledge and experience of pediatric infectious diseases with inviting domestic or international guest speakers, and done on Sunday to encourage participating the medical doctors of private clinics.
    Fall academic conference is held in November annually in the form of members' presenting their researches for 1 year, and done on Saturday.

    The KSPID organizes general infectious diseases academic conference with other infectious disease societies, and is presenting its researches as the subdivision of infectious diseases in the fall academic conference of The Korean Pediatrics Society (KPS).

  • 3) International academic conferences

    The KSPID has been selected as the standing committee bureau on the Asian Congress of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (ACPID) and the World Congress of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (WCPID), and supported those societies' activities actively. The KSPID has been participated in international conferences relating to infectious diseases such as European Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID) and International Congress of Infectious Diseases on a regular basis, and presented more than 10 research data each conference.

  • 4) Monthly academic journal symposium

    Monthly academic symposium is held 7~8 times a year in the evening on Tuesday of last week of each month.
    The symposium consists of 2 subjects. The one is the latest knowledge and experience to be lectured and the other is each hospital's infectious disease cases, which are difficult to be diagnosed and treated, to be presented.

  • 5) Publication

    Since the first academic journal titled "Korean Journal of Pediatric Infectious Diseases" was published on 20th November 1994, it had been published based on review articles, original articles and cases 2 times a year by 2011 under the same title of journal. And then it has been published 3 times a year since 2012.

    As KPS's subdivision specialty academic journal, "Korean Journal of Pediatric Infectious Diseases" has been acknowledged as an academic journal in which each pediatric resident presents their researches, and it is required for residents to pass medical specialist examination. The KSPID requests specialists to correct abstracts only in English.

    The infection part of 'Korean Journal of Pediatrics', 'Immunization Guideline' and 'Vaccine Q&A' of KPS, and 'Epidemiology and Prevention of Vaccine-Preventable Disease' of The Korea Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) were published by KSPID members mostly.

  • 6) Subdivision medical specialists

    Since 2006, subdivision medical specialist system has been arranged and operated while KPS is the holding society of KSPID.
    Subdivision medical specialist licenses have been released since 2007 and 65 subdivision medical specialists in the pediatric infectious diseases have been produced by 2011.

  • 7) Academic awards

    Regulations relating to academic awards were completed in 2005, and certificate of award and prize titled 'KSPID Sanofi Pasteur's academic award' were awarded for 4 best papers published in 2005 and "Korean Journal of Pediatric Infectious Diseases", which is KSPID's official academic journal, from spring academic conference in 2006.

    After that, certificate of award and prize were awarded for 4 best papers in 2006 and 3 best papers in 2007 in spring academic conferences in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
    Also, certificate of award and prize have been award for best papers every year.

  • 8) Members' other activities

    The KSPID's ex-president, Prof. Lee, Hoan Jong, is participating in the Korea National Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice, Ministry of Health and Welfare as the chairman of it, and a number of KSPID's members are working together with it as the members of it, too.

    A number of members are participating in activities of national authorized agencies relating to infection such as KCDC and The Korean National Tuberculosis Association (KNTA) actively as advisory members, and take major roles of nation's making decision of policies relating to infectious diseases.

    Under certain circumstances that clinical researches are required a lot currently to get KFDA's approval in terms of development of new vaccines, most clinical researches for those new vaccines are conducted by KSPID's members. Also, KSPID's members accede actively to demands for their lecturing with regard to infectious diseases required by other societies as well as The Korean Association of Pediatrics Practitioner (KAPP).
